I have produced my zine, “Art-o-Rama”, since October of 2012. Every other month I investigate a concept, theme or idea. I like to celebrate seasons and sometimes document trips or experiences. I enjoy researching topics and sharing obsessions. Whatever is fascinating me as an artist, usually winds up in the zine.
While there are so many issues that I am fond of and certainly proud of, here are some of my favorite zines that I’ve done over the years:
It’s Coffee Time: Issue 22 … coffee has been a constant companion and I drink it obsessively. To not do a zine on joe would be criminal.
Eat, Drink, & Be Merry: Issue 20… I love me some Christmas time and the jolly time of year inspires me to search for what makes the season so special. What does it mean to be Merry? I ofter up, food.
A Guide to Falling into Autumn: Issue 37… I love Fall, and having moved to the Pacific Northwest has made the affection so much stronger. I illustrate the things that make me love it so.
Now you can subscribe to “Art-o-Rama” through the online store! You’ll get 6 issues (1 year) for $36. It’s super easy and it will come straight to your mailbox via the Postals. Portal to subscription
It is Fall… and we are falling into the First Friday of Fall at Sidestreet Arts. As per usual, we are reception-izing on Friday, October 5th from 6-9 pm at the gallery. Delicious treats, adult beverages and hobnobbing served up cheerfully.

Lately, I’ve been researching the latest zine topic… ghosts and hauntings/haunted places. In my neck of the woods, one doesn’t need to go very far to find the paranormal. Monterey and Santa Cruz are filled with spirits of the past. The lovely and slightly creepy Restaurant 1833 in Monterey (pictured here) is just such a place… Haunted by former owners and full of low light, real candles and ornate wallpapers, the place has a feeling of … some kind of uneasiness… like you’re being watched. It adds a bit of excitement to your meal… especially if you order a glass of “Stokes Ghost”… a “chilling” red wine fit for the spooky atmosphere.
I didn’t stop there… right down the street is The Monterey Hotel… a lovely old establishment right in the middle of Monterey’s Alvarado Street. I had a lovely conversation with the general manager about the spooks that live there at the hotel. She invited me to have a look around, and so I did. I pulled out my iPhone and took some photos. Later that evening, I was reviewing the photos… and sure enough, small green orbs appeared around the ceiling, and a chaise lounge. A larger “ball of light” is seen in the hallway and a ghostish image on the other side of a small window leading to a hallway. As I write, the hair is standing up on my arms!
This spook-filled issue of ARt-o-rama will be available at the beginning of October. Contact me at email@example.com to reserve a copy.
I just got confirmed… and cemented into the 2016 San Francisco Zine Fest in Golden Gate Park. Last year was my first year behind a table. This year, the super fun one-day event is on Sunday, September 4th at the County Fair Building. Table number and times to follow. I’ll have all the Art-o-ramas on the table… plus some prints, and coffee cup art.
I create and publish a zine called Art-o-Rama… It publishes 6 times a year (every other month)… and the latest issue is all about one of my favorite subjects… coffee! Mmmm… I love me some joe.
Past issue topics include:
My love affair with Ireland, RLS, “Eat, Drink, & Be Merry” (how they partied in Dickens’ time), what it’s like being “under water”… and so much more! I started the zine back in the fall of 2012… so there’s many a’few!
If you would like a copy, go to the contact button and drop me a message with your address. You’ll send me $6 via check or Paypal (we will work out the details) and I will send you a zine. It’s that simple. Maybe you’d like to subscribe? 6 issues for 36 bucks. Again, contact button.
Want to look through the latest copy of the zine? Okay…
… expression is the conveyor belt of art… or is it the other way around?
