Working Artist

Over the past several months, I’ve created quite a bit of artwork, much of which is available though Sidestreet Arts (SE Portland gallery).  I’d like to “draw your attention” to matted original mixed-media works and collages for a mere $80. Did I mention that they are matted? All you need is a frame and boom, it’s on your wall. The above mixed media piece is called “The Fun Never Ends”.

These two collages are inspired by Portland; both include city maps and one has a woman in a raincoat.

There are many other pieces to choose from so why not drop by the gallery at 140 SE 28th Ave., Portland (Oregon).

This piece, simply called “Scrappy 1” is framed and wall-ready. As the title implies, the art was created with scraps of paper from various collage projects that were floating around on my desk. The sliced up paper seemed all mix together nicely. I added colored pencil and black ink to make it all cohesive.

Upcoming Show

Sidestreet Arts changes it’s Featured Gallery every month. For the month of November, I’ll have a third of the FG for to spotlight some new work. I have been working steadily on some new artwork to show in the New Member Spotlight Show. I have a total of nine collages, six of which are brand new. The larger works I’ve only shown once, and so they are mostly “slightly new”.

My fellow new-members and I are a very diverse bunch. Gail is a printmaker whose muses include Victorian wallpapers and Portland flora and fauna. Kathleen is a very “earthy” jewelry artist whose work is rooted in nature (wink) and I’m… well, a tooner/abstract/mixed media/collage person. Whew. I think that perhaps my abstract mixed media works might have blended better for this show…they are more colorful, like Gail’s work…  but that’s okay. Perhaps the complete “otherness” of our art is the show’s strength.

Show opens on October 31st and runs the entire month of November. Opening reception: December 2nd, 6-9pm.

New Upcoming Cards, Prints & Mimosa Sunday!

Sidestreet Arts knows how to party. Twice a month we bring treats and snackies to share, throw open our doors and invite folks in to gaze upon art, hobnob, and graze our delicious food offerings. Our second October Hobnob is this Sunday… Mimosa Sunday offers… well, you guessed it… Mimosas. Fun Starts at 11 am and goes until 2pm. First dozen guests get a special something!

Hey! I’ve got some new offerings available soon… Greeting cards and prints… and original art magnets, too! So keep your peepers peeled (here) for upcoming details.

Falling into First Friday

It is Fall… and we are falling into the First Friday of Fall at Sidestreet Arts. As per usual, we are reception-izing on Friday, October 5th from 6-9 pm at the gallery. Delicious treats, adult beverages and hobnobbing served up cheerfully.

The October/November issue of Art-o-Rama has dropped. #37 has my illustrated guide to Autumn. It’s available now ($5 an issue plus a buck fifty for shipping). Contact me via email.

New Jazz-New Show-New, New, New

New Stuff. New art. New.

So much has happened since the last post. I’ve stepped away from the webcomics that have been a big part of my life for over a decade. I have immersed myself into my new gallery home, Sidestreet Arts. I bought a big ol’ printer for the “art purposes”… and I’ve picked up the scissors and glue for an upcoming split show.

The printer, a Canon Pixma Pro-100, is a beast of a machine… and I’m learning how to use it. Color tweaking… set up… it’s a little complicated. But I’ll get there… I plan to use the monster printer (which needs a name… like “Andre” or “Mungo” ) for card and print making purposes. With this new studio addition, I’ll be able to offer an economical alternative to original art works.

The November Show at Sidestreet Arts is going to be a split show. “New Member Spotlight” will feature art from Gail Owen, Kathleen Mistry, and myself… we three being the “new members”. Since my show-mates are offering all new work, I decided to throw in a few new pieces to add to some recent Jazz collages. They are certainly “moody” pieces. So far, there are 3 new works in progress. And there will certainly be more.
